Ruben Perta - SEIF

Hello, Bailey Bronco Families! My name is Ruben Perta. I am the Special Education Instructional Facilitator (SEIF) at Sister Robert Joseph Bailey Elementary School. This is my third year as Bailey’s SEIF, and my fourth year overall as a SEIF. In this position, I oversee the special education department at Bailey. There are about 100 students at Bailey with IEPs (special education programs), and it is my job to advocate for them and ensure that their needs are being met. If you have any questions regarding special education, I am happy to meet and discuss all of your concerns.

I was born in Chicago and spent the first 20 years of my life there. I then attended Grand Valley State University in Michigan, where I earned two bachelor’s degrees, one in Broadcast Journalism and one in Political Science. In 2007, I moved to Las Vegas, where I worked as a substitute teacher for 2.5 years, guest teaching in every grade from preschool to 12th grade, as well as in many special education programs.

In 2010, I began my career as a licensed teacher for CCSD as an Early Childhood Special Education teacher. I taught the little ones for seven years before becoming a special education facilitator. In Vegas, I earned two master’s degrees – one in Special Education from UNLV, and one in Teaching General Education (K-8) from Sierra Nevada College. As a side job, I also tutor children of all grades at libraries in Clark County through a tutoring program called Andson Learning.

In my spare time, I love watching and following sports. Being from Chicago, I am preferential to their sports teams (Bears, Cubs, Bulls, and Blackhawks), but I also like the Golden Knights and Las Vegas Raiders. I am a sports historian (all of baseball, basketball, football, and hockey), and a big movie buff, and also enjoy keeping up with current events in the world of media, entertainment, and politics.

I love working with Bailey’s students, and look forward to another great year as a Bailey Bronco.

Michelle DAmico - GATE/TAGS

Hi Broncos! My name is Michelle DAmico and I’m happy to be at Bailey ES for my second year as the GATE and TAGS teacher. I was born in Santa Clarita, CA and moved to Las Vegas when I was in kindergarten. I went to CCSD schools from grades 1-12, attending Charlotte Hill, Cannon JHS, and Silverado HS. I graduated from UNLV in 2007 and began my first year of teaching in August 2007. In my 13 year teaching career I taught 6 years in 2nd grade,1 year in 5th grade, and 2 years in 3rd grade. After I taught 3rd grade, I decided to branch out and teach GATE. I love it so much that I’ve been there since.

I spend most of my free time with my husband while we chase around our 4 year old daughter. When we aren’t in Disneyland or gardening in our backyard, I’m reading. Reading is my favorite thing to do at home. Last summer I read 4,200 pages!

In GATE and TAGS, we will be doing tons of projects and deep thinking. I will always help to guide you and I promise to adjust our learning to make sure you get exactly what you need in our class.

Alysia Turner - Occupational Therapist

Hello! My name is Alysia Turner and I am excited to begin my second year as an Occupational Therapist for Sister Bailey Elementary School. I was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, and attended the illustrious Tuskegee University where I obtained my Master’s degree  in Occupational Therapy. I recently moved to Las Vegas in September of 2019 and began my first school assignment as an occupational Therapist. I am excited to see what the new year holds and the wonderful faces I will be able to influence in a positive way.

In my free time I love to try new foods, visit family in Alabama, and spend quality time with my niece and nephews. I sleep often when I am able and love to play volleyball whenever I am able. I also coach underprivileged girls during the summer with affordable volleyball camps. I love being around children and teaching them important values and skills that could assist them later in life. I am the second oldest out of four and always seek family time to spend with my immediate family as much as possible. Hopefully the future will allow a wonderful school year and fun time with all the staff and students. Go Broncos!!!!!
