Ruben Perta - SEIF

Perta, Ruben.jpg

Hello, Bailey Bronco Families! My name is Ruben Perta. I am the Special Education Instructional Facilitator (SEIF) at Sister Robert Joseph Bailey Elementary School. This is my fourth year as Bailey’s SEIF, and my fifth year overall as a SEIF. In this position, I oversee the special education department at Bailey. There are about 100 students at Bailey with IEPs (special education programs), and it is my job to advocate for them and ensure that their needs are being met. If you have any questions regarding special education, I am happy to meet and discuss all of your concerns.

I was born in Chicago and spent the first 20 years of my life there. I then attended Grand Valley State University in Michigan, where I earned two bachelor’s degrees, one in Broadcast Journalism and one in Political Science. In 2007, I moved to Las Vegas, where I worked as a substitute teacher for 2.5 years, guest teaching in every grade from preschool to 12th grade, as well as in many special education programs.

In 2010, I began my career as a licensed teacher for CCSD as an Early Childhood Special Education teacher. I taught the little ones for seven years before becoming a special education facilitator. In Vegas, I earned two master’s degrees – one in Special Education from UNLV, and one in Teaching General Education (K-8) from Sierra Nevada College. As a side job, I also tutor children of all grades at libraries in Clark County through a tutoring program called Andson Learning.

In my spare time, I love watching and following sports. Being from Chicago, I am preferential to their sports teams (Bears, Cubs, Bulls, and Blackhawks), but I also like the Golden Knights and Las Vegas Raiders. I am a sports historian (all of baseball, basketball, football, and hockey), and a big movie buff, and also enjoy keeping up with current events in the world of media, entertainment, and politics.

I love working with Bailey’s students, and look forward to another great year as a Bailey Bronco.
